Career Examination

  1. In comparison to the total number of employed individuals–those who have studied history are very low. I feel like this may be very telling of American viewpoints of history being boring or non-important. Many people limit history majors to only working in schools but in actuality there are many jobs available. As someone who is studying history, I feel as if it is more important than ever to focus on the past and present events occurring in not only our nation, but our world.
  2. Jobs with the highest paying salaries and most career outlook don’t really involve history directly. For example, financial managers and management analysis–the two highest paying jobs also have the highest outlook rates, with rates of 16 and 10, respectively. In addition to this, they also have the lowest amount of history majoring individuals that hold the job title.
  3. The annual median range of the occupation is 63,000 which is decent pay. However, what concerns me is that most occupations in the field require a masters or advanced degree.

I think overall, I would not change my major choice based on the results I found, however it was quite interesting to learn more about the occupations within it.
